NL-SWITCH - Hommage aan Theo Jörgensmann

On 22 May ’26, NL-SWITCH Orchestra brings together musicians who shared the stage with Theo Jörgensmann for many years, alongside a younger generation who recently performed with him in Rotterdam. NL-SWITCH Orchetsra is formed by piano player Bert den Hoed.

Theo Jörgensmann (1948–2025) was a defining voice in European improvised music and played an important role in the Netherlands through ensembles such as Contraband and De Volharding. His lyrical, narrative clarinet playing shaped the direction of many groups he worked with, and he became one of the most important advocates for the clarinet within the field of free improvisation.

For this concert, long-time collaborators such as Peter Jacquemyn, Albrecht Maurer and Ab Baars stand alongside musicians from NL-SWITCH Orchestra who performed with Theo last year. Among them are Pablo Cruz (saxophone), Oriol Marès (clarinet), Friso van Wijck drums and a new voice Natalio Sued (clarinet), three distinct voices representing a new generation within the ensemble.
